Barbacoa Boyz understands the importance of acknowledging that the land we live on, in Quinte West, is the unceded traditional territory of Indigenous peoples since time immemorial.
As a Black-owned business, we recognize the devastation and genocide settler-colonies caused to these First Nations peoples and that they are still being affected by ongoing harm. We are saddened that not enough has been done to complete the 94 Calls to Action or to progress the MMIGW2S Calls to Justice.
We are grateful to those past and present stewards of the land, including our neighbours to the East, the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte. We are committed to our own learning (and un-learning) about Indigenous culture and look forward to the ways we can connect through truth and reconciliation, while also doing our part to respect and take care of our precious lands and waters.
